'He’s finished at Liverpool' – Former midfielder makes bizarre claim about Liverpool signing
After the defeat against Manchester City, Liverpool midfielder Florian Wirtz has once again recived criticism for his performance.
Signed in a £116 million move from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer transfer window, Wirtz has failed to live up to expectations.
The Germany international midfielder has still not scored or assisted a goal for the Merseyside club in the Premier League.
His poor form has coincided with Arne Slot’s team going through their worst period in a long time.
The defending Premier League champions have lost five matches in the league already, having played 11 matches in total so far.
Liverpool have failed to perform this season
From being top of the league in September, they are now eighth in the league table, even behind Manchester United.
Former Real Madrid and Inter Milan midfielder has fired a warning to Wirtz and told him to adapt quickly or “he’s finished at Liverpool”.
Sneijder told Adventure Gamers, as reported by Football365:
“If he doesn’t adapt quickly, he’s finished at Liverpool.
“I always say this about players with a German or Dutch mentality. You can play well in your own country, but they often have problems adapting in other countries.
‘”Wirtz was in the right place in Germany, everything was a good fit. But now he has taken a big step – and at a big club you don’t have time to settle in. You have to deliver immediately.”
Can Florian Wirtz do justice to his transfer fee?
It’s just not happening for Wirtz at Liverpool. Whether it is the physicality of the Premier League or the pace, the midfielder is unable to perform for Slot’s team.
In the summer transfer window, it looked like this is going to be one of the signings of the summer but it has turned out to be a complete disaster.
Football pundit Gary Neville has also joined the conversation and claimed that Wirtz ‘looked like a little boy’ against Man City at the Etihad Stadium.
Have Slot made a mistake in signing him? Is it too early to judge him? There are too many questions that need to be answered.
For now, the Liverpool fans wait and hope that Wirtz can shine and become the player they enjoyed watching play for Leverkusen.
