Netanyahu Breaks Ground on Central Israel Beachfront 'Trump Promenade,' Citing Gaza Riviera Plan

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu attended a ground-breaking ceremony on Wednesday in central Israel for a beachfront promenade named for "Israel's best friend ever," U.S. President Donald Trump, referencing the president's Gaza Riviera plan, "a bit south of here."

Flanked by U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee, Netanyahu said, "Trump spoke to me several times about beachfront properties. He said we have wonderful beachfront assets here. He mentioned a place a bit south of here – in Gaza – and said it should become a place of peace, prosperity, and a good life, not terror. He is right."

"I believe this promenade along this amazing coastline should bear President Trump's name," Netanyahu added.

Several places in Israel are named after Trump, including Trump Heights in the Golan Heights for his recognition of Israeli sovereignty there, a traffic circle outside the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem for relocating the embassy, Donald Trump Square in Petah Tikva, and Trump Park in Kiryat Yam for recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

Last month, the Washington Post reported on a proposal circulating within the Trump administration for a postwar Gaza plan that would implement his vision of the "Riviera of the Middle East." The plan aims to establish a U.S.-led trusteeship over Gaza for at least a decade, transforming the Strip into a hub for tourism and high-tech industries. It would require relocating Gaza's two million residents outside Gaza or to "secure zones."

The plan, detailed in a 38-page document called the Gaza Reconstitution, Economic Acceleration, and Transformation Trust (GREAT Trust), emphasizes "voluntary" relocation with financial incentives. Gazans who choose to leave would receive $5,000 per person, along with subsidized rent and food for up to four years.
