'Stop Russia's economy': Zelenskyy demands global response after deadly Zaporizhzhia bombing

 Russian forces struck Zaporizhzhia, hitting residential neighborhoods, the central bus station, and a medical clinic, reports Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Ukrainian rescuers, medical teams, police, and other emergency services are currently responding to the Russian bombing.

"Air bombs hit the city, ordinary residential buildings, the bus station, and one of the clinics. Unfortunately, there are casualties. Everyone will receive help. I thank every employee of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and all services for responding very quickly and always saving lives under any circumstances," Zelenskyy said.

He stressed that Russian forces continue to take lives along the entire frontline, targeting frontline communities, border towns, and Ukrainian villages.

According to the President, no deadlines or expectations from them make any difference.

"They do not want to stop the killings. The only thing they are looking for is a way to kill Ukraine. We clearly understand the threats. All our partners, just like us, fully understand the threats. Everyone sees that there is no real Russian step toward peace, no step on the ground or in the air that could save lives," Zelenskyy said.

Given this, Zelenskyy called for stronger sanctions and increased pressure.

"Strength is needed — strength above all from the United States, strength from Europe, strength from all nations in the world that want peace and stability in international relations. If Russia does not want to stop the war, then its economy must be stopped," he concluded.

Shelling of Zaporizhzhia and the region

Russian forces regularly target Zaporizhzhia and the surrounding region with drones, air bombs, and missiles.

Today's attacks followed the same pattern. On the evening of August 10, explosions rocked the city and region after Russia struck using guided air bombs.

It was soon confirmed that Russian forces hit the central bus station of Zaporizhzhia with a guided aerial bomb. By 7:20 PM Kyiv time, the number of wounded had reached 12.
